4/18/2019 4:21:00 PM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Northeastern State will face Southwest Baptist on April 26 in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament, league officials announced on Thursday afternoon.

The RiverHawks will enter the tournament as the five seed and will kick off the second session of play at 2 p.m. at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.

This the first and only time that both programs will meet each other in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament with SBU departing the league at the end of the season.  Five of the last six conference tournament championships have featured NSU and SBU.

In the regular season meeting, Southwest Baptist won 4-3 in Tahlequah to end a 47-match MIAA winning streak for the RiverHawks.

Should Northeastern State win, they will advance to the semifinals on Saturday to face top-seeded Washburn or No. 8 seed Missouri Western at 2 p.m.

The MIAA Women's Tennis Championship is on Sunday, April 28 at 10 a.m. and will be broadcasted online on The MIAA Network.
