TAHLEQUAH – The RiverHawks Tennis team will travel south this weekend for three nonconference matchups in San Angelo, Texas, including two ranked opponents. They will face No. 16 St. Edward's Friday at 10 a.m. before facing Texas Permian Basin at 3 p.m. They will wrap up the weekend against No. 14 Angelo State Saturday morning.
First Serve
1. The RiverHawks are 3-2 on the season, and are coming off a 4-3 loss to Southern Arkansas on Sunday. The RiverHawks the doubles point against the Muleriders, and got a three-set win from No. 3
Tatjana Stoll along with a 6-4, 6-3 win from
Melissa Vera, but the match came down to the final match, where SAU won 6-4, 7-6.
2. Stoll was named MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the fourth time in her career. The senior has won 77 singles matches in her career and is 38-7 as NSU's top singles player.
3. The Hilltoppers are 5-0 on the season, and have swept four of their five opponents. They were most recently in action on Saturday when they beat Southeastern Oklahoma 4-0. Camila Baeza is 5-0 this season in singles play, while Lara Schmid is 4-0. Kendall Brooks is in her sixth season as head coach of the Hilltoppers.
4. The Falcons are 4-2 on the season and are riding a three-match win streak. They haven't been in action since Feb. 8 when they beat Southwest 9-0 and New Mexico Military Institute 5-1. UTPB is led by seniors Melissa Ariza Gonzalez and Julia Ramalho.
5. The Golden Rams are 5-1 on the season, with their lone loss coming to No. 9 Central Oklahoma. This will be the first-ever meeting between the RiverHawks and Golden Rams. Head coach Chris Bizot is the only coach the Golden Rams have known.
