LAS VEGAS – Northeastern State fired off a 305 Thursday and holds a commanding eight-stroke advantage at The Legacy Invitational Thursday afternoon. The RiverHawks have four players inside of the top-nine overall on the par-72, 6989 yard The Legacy Golf Course.
Carlos Gomez is tied for the medalist lead with an even 72, hitting three birdies under breezy conditions with winds gusting upward to 30 miles per hour.
"You can tell by the scoring we had some crazy wind conditions on the course," said head coach
Scott Varner. "Proud of the way my guys gutted it out and battled it is a tough emotional test on days like this."
"You must discipline those emotions because bad things are definitely going to happen. Our guys handled their emotions pretty darn well. It is hard to keep the ball in play at times with housing on both sides of every fairway,"
Brayden Strickland and
Brett Wilcoxen are tied for sixth with 77s,
Gabe Replogle is tied for ninth with a 78.
Kaden Armstrong carded an 81 is tied for 31st place.
The RiverHawks lead the field with 51 pars and birdies; they will return to the course on Friday at 9:30 a.m. for the final round.
