HAYS, Kan. – Northeastern State clinched early and handled Fort Hays State 5-2 on Saturday to return home from its longest-season road trip with two wins.
"We didn't have our best tennis today, and we're a little banged up at the moment, but we were able to get the job done; at the end of the day, that's what it's about, said head coach
Tim McLane.
Our doubles were pretty solid today for the most part, and in singles, we had some times where we were playing really good ball; we just need to be a little more consistent with our level."
Sandra Mari Marti won her 17th singles match of the season with her first MIAA sweep at five singles.
Emilia Cosatto swept her second set at singles and dropped just two games in her first set.
Valeria Teran clinched the match at four singles, getting a 6-4, 6-0 result over her Tigers foe.
"We're playing some good ball right now with three massive home matches coming up this week, and we're going to need a whole mess of fans at the courts to help us out," added McLane.
Northeastern State (8-4, 3-1 MIAA) moves to 10-0 all-time against Fort Hays State, who drops to 6-9 (0-5 MIAA).
The RiverHawks return to NSU Wednesday for its final non-conference match, hosting Arkansas Tech.
