TAHLEQUAH –
Sandra Mari Marti won on court six as the RiverHawks closed out its home slate with a 6-1 home loss to Washburn Saturday afternoon.
The freshman won her 19th singles match of the season in just under 90 minutes, 6-4, 6-0.
Belinda Jayaprakash won her final home doubles match on Senior Day 6-4 with
Roos Karremans on court three. The Ichabods won the final two games on court two just minutes earlier to clinch the doubles point.
"I thought we played a really solid doubles point, just weren't able to secure it at the end," said head coach
Tim McLane. "We really put ourselves in a hole there just starting singles a little too flat, and good teams will make you pay for that.
We've been working on keeping our level and energy consistent throughout the match, and I think that's really the one thing holding us back from a big breakthrough right now."
Washburn moves to 11-6, 5-2 MIAA with their fifth consecutive win over the RiverHawks.
Northeastern State (8-7, 3-3 MIAA) closes out its regular season on the road Friday and Saturday with visits to Emporia State and Newman.
