LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The NSU Men's Golf team is tied for 10th after two rounds at the Las Vegas Desert Classic. The RiverHawks were 10th after shooting 307 in round one, and despite improving their score to 305, found themselves tied for 10th with Washburn.
Carlos Gomez leads NSU, sitting in a tie for 10th place in the medalist race after shooting matching 74s. He made his mark on the par-fives, where he had the third-lowest average score of the tournament.
Ty Shelnutt is tied for 33rd after shooting 153 (78-75).
Casey Paul sits in a tie for 56th along with
Dustin Anderson, after they both shot 157.
Grant Hynes rounds out the NSU lineup, shooting 164 (84-80).
NSU made 14 birdies in the first two rounds, with Gomez hitting five alone. Paul and Gomez both hit an eagle in the first round, with Paul's coming on the ninth hole and Gomez hitting one on the 15th hole.
St. Mary's (Texas) leads the field after shooting 590 (299, 291) on the day. Arkansas Tech, Regis, Colorado State-Pueblo and Oklahoma Christian round out the top five. Andrew Ni of CSU-Pueblo leads the medalist race with a score of 143 (71-72). He is two strokes ahead of a five-way tie for second place.
The RiverHawks will finish the tournament on Tuesday morning at the Royal Links Golf Club.
