Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the cancellation of spring championships, Northeastern State Athletics is highlighting its spring senior class with a spotlight series featuring Q&A's with the student-athletes and a video from the head coach.
Hunter is a fifth-year senior for the RiverHawks and battled back from an injury in the fall of 2018 and was granted a waiver to play this past season for NSU. Pennington is a Tahlequah native and played in 23 events for the RiverHawks. This past season, Hunter averaged a 75.60 per round score and had NSU's second-lowest score in what ended up being his final tournament in San Antonio this past February.
What has been your favorite moment as a student-athlete at Northeastern State?
- This is such a tough question, but overall my favorite moment of being a student-athlete would be the camaraderie of the golf team and the unbreakable bonds that are formed throughout the years.
What has been your most meaningful experience outside of athletics?
- My most meaningful experience outside of golf has been creating and establishing lifelong friendships through Pike or other organizations I was involved in.
Who was/is your favorite professor at Northeastern State, and why?
- My favorite professor was either Dr. Yeutter or Dr. Deason Toyne. I learned so much from both of them- whether it be from the designated content or just life lessons, it's hard to pick one.
Do you have plans for post-graduation yet? If so, what are they?
- My plans for after graduation are to go to Memphis and do the Emerging Leaders program that is offered by the Downline Institute.
What advice would you give to younger athletes about their time at Northeastern State?
- As busy as we are as athletes, my advice to the younger athletes is to get involved with organizations on campus such as NAB or Greek life. Simply just get involved outside of your sports team you are in.
Is there anything you want to add?
- I just want to thank all the coaches, professors, and administration for working so hard to make everyone's experience at NSU great! I'm thankful I made the decision 5 years ago to stay in Tahlequah and attend NSU to play golf.
