Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the cancellation of spring championships, Northeastern State Athletics is highlighting its spring senior class with a spotlight series featuring Q&A's with the student-athletes and a video from the head coach.

River is a three-year member of the men's golf program and has been a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. A native of Miami, Okla., River will be graduating from NSU with a degree in Finance this Spring.

What has been your favorite moment as a student-athlete at Northeastern State?

  • My favorite moment as an athlete at NSU has been the numerous memories created amongst my teammates. It is hard to select one moment, I have enjoyed grinding and sharing lots of hours practicing, competing, and growing together as teammates.

What has been your most meaningful experience outside of athletics?

  • My most meaningful experience outside of athletics at NSU was my decision to join Stumo and develop friendships among many fellow students and most importantly grow in my relationship with Christ.

Who was/is your favorite professor at Northeastern State, and why?

  • My favorite professor at NSU was Dr. Yuetter. He was a fantastic income tax professor and he was also always committed to supporting our athletic events coming to every event he could.

Do you have plans for post-graduation yet? If so, what are they?

  • Post-graduation I plan to work a part-time job at Lowe's and continuing applying and interviewing for full-time positions in my degree field which is Finance. I will also continue my master's degree that I have already started at NSU.

What advice would you give to younger athletes about their time at Northeastern State?

  • My advice to younger athletes would be to always give your teammates your best, even when your best doesn't seem good enough. To always practice and work hard as you can and be the best teammate that is possible. I would also advise future athletes to be great friends, to be involved with their school and community, and to step out of their comfort zones.

Is there anything you want to add?

  • Having had the opportunity to play college golf and attend school at NSU has easily been the best years of my life. It's offered many learned lessons, great challenges, unlimited opportunities, and most importantly incredible friends. I've enjoyed every year I've been able to attend NSU, and I would recommend it to anyone.
