Betka

Senior Spotlight: Betka Gombarova

5/6/2020 2:28:00 PM

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the cancellation of spring championships, Northeastern State Athletics is highlighting its spring senior class with a spotlight series featuring Q&A's with the student-athletes and a video from the head coach.

Betka is a four-year letterwinner for the RiverHawks and is a member of teams that reached the NCAA Sweet 16 and Elite 8. She also helped NSU win MIAA Regular Season and Tournament Championships during her freshman and sophomore seasons. Betka owns two All-MIAA selections and has been a member of the association's Academic Honor Roll. In four seasons, Betka has won 86 matches at NSU, second-most on the current active roster.

What has been your favorite moment as a student-athlete at Northeastern State?

  • Making it twice to nationals with our amazing team.

What has been your most meaningful experience outside of athletics?

  • My freshman year experience living on campus making new friends.

Who was/is your favorite professor at Northeastern State, and why?

  • Nayer Naseem-because his online classes are super organized and it's not a load of homework as other professors.

Do you have plans for post-graduation yet? If so, what are they?

  • Stay in the US and work on OPT.

What advice would you give to younger athletes about their time at Northeastern State?

  • My advice is if you wanna be a college athlete (think twice before you decide so) get ready for hard work and almost zero time to yourself and your personal life. It's all just practices workouts traveling competitions and a bunch of meetings every single week of your athletic college 'life'. When there are school breaks or Labor Day for everyone, it's just a workday for you. So, for sure be prepared to have good time management skills and don't let little things put you down.
